News: New Blogger and New Jersey Book Signing Tonight!

Senior year is a crazy, crazy time. I don't want to stop blogging or reading but I just felt so bad when I leave the blog blank or don't get a review out in time. So I went out in search for another blogger for With A Book. My cousin Kelli, writes reviews here everyone in awhile too, but I wanted one more person. I didn't have to look to hard since one of my best friends, and the first person I asked said yes.
I want you guys to meet Brittany! I've known her since 7th grade, where we bonded over books. I remember sharing everything that we read, even library books. (Since Brittany didn't have a card, I let her read them after I did). I'm really excited to have her on With A Book. Hopefully now with the two of us, With A Book will always be active.
Now here's a small intro about herself that Brittany wrote for you guys!
How far away could I go if I traveled by foot, car, train, or plane? How much will it cost for me to visit the tombs in Egypt, to walk the hills of San Francisco, to breathe in the ocean air in the Philippines? May I please eat a croissant on the streets of Paris or smell the meadows of a faraway fairytale? In real life, I cannot slay a Medieval dragon or kiss a cute Italian boy by the Trevi Fountain but through books I can. A book transports you to any destination or time period through the power of words. Words provide you with the opportunity to forget about real life and to live as a character, someone completely different. I love books that make me forget about the present and books that I can never forget. A good book lets you travel the world without ever leaving the couch. This is why I read. My name is Brittany and I have an incurable case of wanderlust. Danielle, my best friend who turned me into a reading addict years ago, has asked me to write some reviews for this wonderful blog. I look forward to reviewing hopefully once a week for you all!
- Both of us are super excited! We are already planning so much stuff! Brittany's first review will be up on tomorrow! :)
--Also Brittany at the moment is slightly anti-social media sites. I'm going to try and change that. Twitter is very essential for a blogger, don't you guys agree?
In other news, this is kind of last minute, but I'm off to a book signing at Barnes and Nobles tonight in Freehold NJ! I just thought I would put the word out there to see if any other bloggers are going.
The book signing is for a local authors. I'm going to see Danielle Sibarium, the author of Heart Waves and For Always!

Review: I was a little skeptical to begin reading this book. Then I decided what the heck and tried it. I easily became addicted and stayed up till three o'clock in the morning to finish it. Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side captivated me with witty characters. I particularly enjoyed Jessica's personality and demeanor. The flow and progression of the main characters falling in love seemed very realistic and not rushed at all. The ending left me squealing! This book practically oozes out charm and is highly enjoyable. If you like vampires, romance, and the tall dark handsome type you must read this book. I look forward to finally purchasing and reading the sequel Jessica Rules the Dark Side. --Brittany

Review: Since I started reading Young Adult novel's one the most common names I would always hear was John Green. Of course I had to look into all the hype. I've since started watching the Vlog brothers videos (which are one of my favorite Youtube channels now), I've even met John Green in person (at BEA) and I also own all of his novels (most of them signed). When one of my close friends finished Looking for Alaska she FINALLY convinced me to picked it up to read. Now I know what all the hype is about. This is one of those books that deserves every single raving review it has gotten so far.
My favorite part of Looking for Alaska was the characters. Each one is so distinct and different. The main character Miles was so relatable. He felt so lonely and dislocated from his first school in the beginning of the novel. As he transfers to the boarding school and meets Alaska and her friends, you can feel the changes in Miles as he fits in. The reader also starts to care about Alaska and the Colonel as Miles does. Everything in this book makes you emotional.
Looking for Alaska is one of those books that is so truthful and real. The characters acted like real teenagers, they weren't fluffed over to make them sound better and more careful. This is a novel that everyone can relate to and feel. John Green just has a way of words that gets to you. This is a novel that you can't put down.
Also John Green has to be the coolest author ever. Not only does he sign so many books. (he really seems to like signing his name everywhere), he also has one of the best youtube channels, and he had one of the best notes at the end of a book. I have a really bad habit of reading the back of the book before I start the novel. I don't know why, I know it's bad. Yet I can't stop. When I flipped to the back of Looking For Alaska I found an interview with John Green. Before the interview he basically said, I know you're here without reading the book first and not to do it. I laughed but kept reading, but then he purposely kept out all spoilers, commenting on how he knew readers were going to keep reading. I loved how he did that and because of it, I went back to the front with no idea what the 'big change' was going to be.
Everyone has to read this book. That's all I have to say.
p.s. This is a tissue book. You will need tissues, and probably a whole box of them.

Review: Jamberry Nails

I am a huge fan of the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips (I'm actually wearing some as I type this) so when given the opportunity I wanted to try out the Jamberry Nails nail shields.
The Jamberry Nails nail shields are made from vinyl so to apply and remove you need to use a hairdryer to heat them up to make them a little bit flexible. So they take a little bit more work and time to apply them.
From far away they look pretty great right? I got tons and TONS of compliments on them. But from my perspective the below pictures are what I was seeing and having to deal with. Maybe not so much worth the time...
Being a perfectionist this is pretty hard for me to deal with. Not a very smooth application.
So I had some mixed feelings about these. I loved the pattern and there are 250+ more where these came from. They definitely have the most variety in this type of general nail application I've seen. It was really hard to pick which ones to try. And you get enough nail shields for at least 2 applications so you are definitely getting a lot for your money. So they have that going for them.
I applied my pinkies first and those two are the only ones I could keep on my nails for more than a few days. They laid the flattest, not perfect but good enough. The rest were super wavy on the sides and some tips, getting caught on things and dust was getting stuck underneath them since they were not at all flat to my nails (besides the pinkies), basically I had to get them off my nails after a few days, I couldn't stand the application. I've seen pictures of people wearing them and they looks great on their nails though, so maybe it's my nail shape that isn't working in this situation. I saw a lot of pictures of flat short nails (which I don't have) so maybe they work better on those types of nails? I watched the application video several times and read the directions several times so I really don't think it was user error. The first two I put on stayed the best!
Jamberry Nails states that these should last for 2 weeks so I wanted to test that claim out. I left the two pinkies alone for two weeks. Technically they did stay on my nails for that entire time but sometimes when I would run my hands through my hair or wash my hair they would start to peel up from the nail bed but I just pressed them back down and they stayed.
So my verdict on this is it's a mixed bag. They definitely have a lot of great things going for them but also for me personally didn't meet my standards for how I wanted them to look when applied. Have you tried Jamberry Nails? What did you think of them?

In the era of Glee and with the resurgence of boy bands, Pitch Perfect hits all the right notes. What originally drew me to this movie's concept was my love of the TV show Glee, but what kept me was basically seeing stuff like this:
Hilarious right? You know how a lot of movie trailers give away the best parts? Well Pitch Perfect (in theaters 9/28 everywhere 10/5) definitely saved a lot for the movie.
I love the casting in this movie, you have a whole gaggle of hilarious women (including the scene stealing Rebel Wilson and the girl with the bangs-you will know her when you see her-I think she stole the whole movie!) and few great guys as well (HIMYM fans watch for the Ted Mosby lookalike!) Basically this movie was beyond hilarious and the singing was pitch perfect (hehe.)

1. Brokenhearted-Karmin Whenever I hear this song I just can't sit still, love it! 2. Call Me Maybe-Carly Rae Jepsen I know, I know you are probably sick of this one but I am not! 3. Hang It Up-The Ting Tings This is a great one for when you are stuck in traffic. 5.Young Folks-Peter Bjorn and John Who doesn't wish they had thought of this song. 6. Don't You Want Me (Glee Cast Version) I love the energy in this song it makes me want to jump up and down for the entire song 7. Lloyd, I'm Ready to be Heartbroken-Camera Obscura Love the story behind this song and of course it's fun to sing along to! 8. Shake It Out-Florence + The Machine Florence can do no wrong in my mind. 9. Sweet Disposition-The Temper Trap This one just gives me chills! 10. Don't You (Forget About Me)-Simple Minds Even before I saw the movie I knew this one had to be on my list and well hell, after seeing the movie it would just be wrong without it. One of my favorites.

Really they both work, they get the same point across. I feel like the cover was redone to match the sequel with the same model (see it here). I think they cropped her in a weird place on the new cover though, it seems like it's right underneath her eyes. This new cover is a little more subtle with its colors which I like.
